Geneva, September 22, 2025 – XPRIZE, a world-renowned American organization, is behind international competitions designed to accelerate technological innovation in the service of humanity. Among its flagship initiatives is the XPRIZE Water Scarcity, a competition funded by the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative and endowed with several million dollars, with the objective of finding concrete and sustainable solutions to address the global water crisis.
Within this framework, ECOSYSTEM VLG World is honored to announce its selection for the first phase of the XPRIZE Water Scarcity. This international recognition confirms the relevance of our vision and technologies in tackling one of the most urgent challenges of the 21st century.
Our teams are actively preparing their first tests, scheduled for December 2025. The location, which will allow us to validate our innovations under real-world conditions, will remain confidential until the official launch of the trials.
Our solution – Track A
As part of the Track A of the XPRIZE Water Scarcity, ECOSYSTEM VLG World is developing an innovative seawater desalination solution. This technology aims to produce high-quality drinking water at lower cost and with optimized energy efficiency, in order to meet the growing needs of populations threatened by rising sea levels and the depletion of freshwater resources.
Who we are
ECOSYSTEM VLG World is an international ecosystem based in Switzerland, bringing together technology, humanitarian action, and sustainable governance. Its founder, Virginie Guignard-Legros, philosopher in artificial intelligence and recipient of several international awards (Europe Digital Woman of the Year in Cybersecurity 2024, Inspiring Ed-Tech Enabler of the Year 2025), has designed a systemic approach to address the challenges of the 21st century, with particular focus on water management and climate resilience.
The Water Label: innovation and solidarity
At the heart of this initiative lies the Water Label, a unique community-based label that combines:
- A social dimension, supporting vulnerable populations in accessing clean and safe water.
- A rigorous selection of sustainable technologies for the treatment of freshwater, saline groundwater, and seawater.
- Full integration within the Water Program of ECOSYSTEM VLG World, aimed at helping beneficiaries around the globe anticipate and confront the upcoming climate-driven water crisis.
